My name is Emmylou Hobgood, and I am a labor and postpartum doula. I received my labor and postpartum certification from Cornerstone Doula Trainings in May 2017, and since then I have been serving private clients and providing childcare in the San Francisco and East Bay areas. I have also been part of the San Francisco General Hospital Volunteer Doula program, assisting lower income and/or uninsured families who otherwise would not have the option of having a doula at their birth. I feel committed to serving a vast array of parents-to-be, regardless of gender, race, religion, sexuality, economic status, etc. As a queer person, I feel especially passionate about serving queer and alternatively structured families.
I first fell in love with the joys of pregnancy and the birthing process in 1997 when I witnessed the birth of my little brother Hank. I continued to admire pregnancy and birth throughout my adolescence with my mother being a pseudo-doula and nanny for many friends. This experience fueled my passions for pursuing birth work and childcare.
I moved to the Bay Area from my hometown of Los Angeles in 2011 for college, and graduated from UC Berkeley in 2015. In the last 7 years, I have fallen in love with the Bay Area, and have found incredible communities of all kinds. I am excited to expand my birthing community and to help folks start families of their own as their doula.
